Frequently-Asked Questions

How much does swim team cost?

Swim Team registration is as follows:

  • 1 Swimmer - $125

  • 2 Swimmers - $185

  • 3+ Swimmers - $210

A 10% discount is offered if your child is unable to attend meets but would still like to practice, or if your child doesn’t want to practice but can come to swim meets. We do ask that they at least attend the first practice to gauge their swim level.

In addition, you have the ability to purchase a team swimsuit and spirit wear.

Do I have to buy a team swimsuit?

It is not required to buy a team swimsuit, although the vast majority of swimmers do choose to purchase one. Guppies, especially, may choose to wear a plain, navy blue swimsuit.

Where do I buy a team swimsuit?

Team swimsuits are available to order at our on-line store but are not required.

Who qualifies for swim team?

Any child ages 4-18 that is a member of the Lakes of Aurora pool may join the team. All children should be comfortable in the water by themselves.

Please note: We do have a Guppy level for our smallest and beginner swimmers. At this level there is additional coaching help and more focus is placed on swim fundamentals. Guppies should be comfortable swimming the length of the pool beginning with a kickboard and ultimately, when they are physically capable, swimming on their own. There will always be a Guppy Catcher (older swimmer on the team) within arms reach in the deep end with the children. Once a child is able to swim comfortably on their own, without any help, they will move up to the Minnow level.

Is my child ready to be a Guppy?

If you are wondering if your child is ready to be a Guppy, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Can your child touch the bottom of the pool in the shallow end? The pool is about 3 ft high in the shallow end.

  2. Does your child willingly go under water?

  3. Will your child willingly go into the pool with the coaches? You can certainly stay during the whole Guppy practice, but you will not be in the water with him/her.

If you answer Yes to all of the above questions, your child will enjoy being a Guppy! If not, your child is welcome to join later in the season, when he/she is able and comfortable with the above requirements.

You can rest assured that your child will never be in the deep end of the pool unattended.  During meets, the kids can use a kickboard and will always have an older swimmer within arms reach.  During practice, the guppies spend most of their time in the shallow end with the coaches in the water with them.

Do you have to be a good swimmer to join?

No, the Lakes of Aurora Swim Team encourages swimmers of all levels to join! In fact, our youngest swimmers may still be learning the basic fundamentals of swimming and can use a kick-board for meets. As a parent, you will identify your child's swim classification on the registration form.

Do I need previous experience on a team?

No previous experience is required. Coaches will teach newest members how a swim meet is organized and run, insuring all swimmers are comfortable.

When are practices?

Swim practices are held Monday - Thursday, beginning the first full week of June and running through the third week in July. Guppy practices are 10:00-10:30 a.m. All other swimmers practice from 9:00-9:55 a.m.

When are swim meets?

Meets are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in June and July. The only exception is around the 4th of July holiday.

What if I can't make it to all of the practices and/or swim meets?

That is totally fine! We understand that summer is a busy time, filled with vacations and camps. Attend the practices and swim meets that you are able to attend. We just request that upon registering you let us know what practices and meets you will miss. It is especially important to give advance notice to the coaches when you will miss a meet as they create the meet line-ups.

A 10% discount is offered if your child is unable to attend meets but would still like to practice, or if your child doesn’t want to practice but can come to swim meets. We do ask that they at least attend the first practice to gauge their swim level.
